South Orange County Reliability Enhancement (SOCRE)
To improve safety and reliability for South Orange County’s electric utility customers, SDG&E plans to upgrade the decades-old lines, poles and substations within the cities of
San Juan Capistrano
San Clemente
Unincorporated areas of Orange County.
The Project
Rebuild the substation in San Juan Capistrano that was last renovated in the 1950’s;
Upgrade the transmission lines from 69kV and 138kV to 230kV in order to provide the electric reliability needed today; and
Replace existing structures with taller new steel poles, which enhance safety and reliability.
Reliability Benefits
Improves reliability to existing electric system
Modernizes electric transmission system and replaces outdated equipment

Project Timeline
SDG&E will coordinate and collaborate with residents, businesses, local government agencies, and others to provide information and gather input about our proposed new natural gas transmission pipeline. We’re committed to keeping communities informed about the project throughout the CPUC’s review process and during construction. Here’s the anticipated timeline:
Fall 2015 – Submit project application to the CPUC
2015 – 2019 – CPUC review
2019 – CPUC approval
2020 – Begin construction
2022 – Pipeline goes into service and Line 1600 derated

Demand Response Saves You Energy and Money
High summer temperatures can increase the overall demand for energy. Demand Response programs were designed as a way for residential and business customers to help manage the electric demand or amount of energy that is needed in their community.
When your household or business participates in a Demand…
What are the Benefits?
Safety
The Pipeline Safety & Reliability Project implements state law and SDG&E’s Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan (PSEP), which was approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in 2014. PSEP is part of a multi-year effort to enhance public safety, comply with new regulatory requirements, minimize customer impacts and maximize the cost-effectiveness of our infrastructure investments. The proposed new pipeline will replace the transmission function of an existing pipeline on the system.
Reliability
From hot water to cooking, electric generation to mass transit, natural gas fuels our homes and businesses and is a necessary part of our daily lives. Besides implementing new safety requirements, the new pipeline will enhance the reliability of the natural gas system.

Overview
Through our Gas Distribution Integrity Management Program (or DIMP), we routinely and systematically evaluate risks to validate the integrity of gas pipelines and to identify problems that could compromise the pipes in our system. This evaluation process has been in place for decades to detect leaks and proactively repair and replace at-risk pipeline segments.
More recently, state and federal laws have imposed new requirements on pipeline operators like SDG&E to inspect and test their systems – all for the purpose of increased pipeline safety. Certain pipe segments have been identified for replacement based on a number of considerations, particularly early vintage polymer or “Aldyl-A" pipes. Aldyl-A pipes were deployed extensively in the 1970s and 1980s for suburban areas. DIMP pipe replacement projects are expected…
