Generator Grant Program

The Generator Grant Program provides a no-cost, portable power station (backup battery) to eligible customers who are medically vulnerable and energy dependent. Eligible customers must also live in areas with elevated wildfire threat and have experienced a previous Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) occurrence. The program also includes customer education and guidance on the use of a power station unit

Eligible customers will start receiving notification letters for the 2024 Program starting in late August through September. If you meet the Eligibility Requirements below and have not received a notification letter in the mail by the end of September, you may complete the online Interest Form below to be notified if your household qualifies to participate. Please ensure your contact information is up to date by logging into My Energy Center or calling 1-800-411-7343. 

 

Eligibility Requirements for the Generator Grant Program:

  • You must be a current residential SDG&E electric customer.
  • You must reside in a High Fire Threat District (HFTD) Tier 2 or Tier 3 and have experienced at least one PSPS outage since 2019.
  • You must be enrolled in the Medical Baseline Program  or self-identify as an individual with a qualifying access or functional need (AFN). Please visit our AFN web page for more information.
  • You must not have participated in a utility-supported program that provides permanent backup power (e.g., permanent propane generator, permanent backup battery, etc.).
  • You must not have already participated in this program in a previous year.

Richard Heath & Associates (RHA) will perform a short resiliency assessment by phone, enroll eligible customers in the program, coordinate delivery of the power station units to enrolled customers, and teach customers how to use their units during a PSPS event or other type of power outage.
